Although many of those functions, in addition to video hosting, will be handled by Atlanta-based NDN, Ascheim said there will be no layoffs or changes as a result of the switch. “This frees our people up to do other things,” Ascheim said. “We actually competed against NDN, and felt that with their extensive content network, they would be good to partner with”

News Of The World Pricier On iPad Than On Paper

The Sunday paper hit the tablet this weekend on the same platform used by its stablemate The Sun earlier this year - an awkward software engine that replicates all 128 print pages (and those of Fabulous magazine), each of which is slow to load and must be zoomed on before text can be easily read.

The price - free for the opening weekend, then £1.19 ($1.85) in-app thereafter for future editions. That’s £0.19 ($0.29) MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE PRINT EDITION.

# 미국 최대 정치블로그 ‘허핑톤포스트’ http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ , 트래픽 기준으로 미국 두번째 뉴스사이트라는 결과가 컴스코어에 의해 발표되면서 논쟁 발생.

과연 허핑톤포스트를 언론사 사이트로서 봐야 할 것인가에 대한 이의를 제기하고 있는 상황임. NYT는 최근 허핑톤포스트로 옮긴 자사 에디터 때문에 신경이 곤두서 있음.

참고로 트래픽 순위로 보면, NYT, 허핑턴, 트리뷴 가 1,2,3위이며, 이같은 추세라면 NYT도 추격할 정도로 성장할 가능성이 보임. 블로그 사이트 하나가 이토록 영향혁이 커질 수 있다는 것을 반증하고 있음.

‘뉴욕타임스 컴퍼니’의 10년(2000~2009년) 재무분석 결과, 성장성과 수익성 면에서 뚜렷한 하락세를 보이고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 한국언론진흥재단이 최근 낸 2010 해외 미디어 동향 ‘뉴욕타임스 재무분석 보고서’에 따르면, 뉴욕타임스를 비롯해 인터내셔널헤럴드트리뷴 등 75개의 사업체를 운영하고 있는 ‘뉴욕타임스 컴퍼니’는 자산규모, 매출액, 자기자본의 측면에서 2000년대 중반까지 계속 성장해 산업평균 또는 중간값을 상회하는 증가율을 보이다가, 2006년부터 성장을 멈춘 것으로 드러났다.

뉴욕타임스 컴퍼니의 자산총액은 2000년 36억6백70만달러(우리 돈 4조1천6백3억여원. 21일 기준)에서 지속적으로 증가, 2005년 45억3천3백만달러(5조2천2백억여원)로 최고점에 도달했다. 그러나 2009년 30억8천8백60만달러(3조5천6백억여원)로 감소했다. 지난 10년간의 뉴욕타임스 컴퍼니의 수익성은 전반적으로 하락세를 보였다. 총자산순익률을 따져볼 때 2000년 11.02%에서 2001년 12.93%로 증가했다가 지속적으로 감소, 2009년에는 3.59%까지 떨어진 것으로 나타났다.

시장조사업체인 이마케터(eMarketer)에 따르면, 美온라인광고시장은 지난 해보다 13.9% 늘어난 258억 달러로 전망됐다. 반면, 신문광고시장은 8.2% 줄어든 228억 달러로 집계됐다.

제프 램지 이마케터 최고경영자(CEO)는 "온라인광고는 광고효과를 측정할 수 있다는 점에서 기존 광고매체보다 더 효율적인 것으로 평가받고 있다"고 말했다.

올해 美광고시장은 지난 해보다 3% 늘어난 1천685억 달러로 전망되고 있다. 신문 광고 시장은 계속 감소해 내년에는 6% 줄어든 214억 달러로 예상됐다. 반면 온라인광고 시장은 올해보다 10.5% 증가한 285억 달러로 예측됐다.

Reported revenue for the nation's top media firms climbed 6.1% in the first six months of 2010, according to Ad Age's analysis. U.S. media employment has added 4,600 jobs since hitting its downturn nadir in May 2010.

The year just ending marked a sea change: The internet (including mobile) passed newspapers in 2010 U.S. ad revenue, making the internet the second-largest ad medium behind TV, according to Interpublic Group of Cos.' MagnaGlobal.
