흥미있는 소식인데 어떤 언론도 언급하지 않아서 소개합니다. 2TB짜리 웨스턴디지털 외장HDD 1대가 미국 국가기록관리청(NARA : National Archives & Records Administration)을 발칵 뒤집어 놓은 것으로 확인됐습니다. 클린턴 정부시절 백악관을 방문한 사람들의 인적 자료가 담긴 2TB 외장HDD 1대가 분실된 것으로 밝혀졌기 때문입니다.

인포메이션위크 21일자 보도에 따르면 NARA 관계자는 지난 3월 24일 해당 HDD가 분실된 것을 파악하고, 4월 2일 NARA 책임자에게 “찾을 수 없다”고 보고했으며, 이어 클린턴 측 관계자를 비롯해 각국 담당자들에게 보고가 된 상황입니다. 또한 5만 달러 보상금도 걸어 놓은 상태라고 합니다.

오리지널 테이프와 백업용 하드드라이브는 NARA가 보유하고 있어 정보 손실은 없는 것으로 보입니다. 그러나 해당 외장 드라이브에는 비공개 방문 인사 정보등이 포함되어 있을 뿐만 아니라, 각 방문자들의 소셜 시큐리티 번호(주민번호와 같은 개념) 등 각종 인적사항 등이 담겨 있습니다. 유력 인사들의 정보도 다수 있다고 합니다. 정보 보안 정책에 심각한 문제가 없는지 점검을 하겠군요.
